Almost all engineering colleges/institutes admit students to M.Tech. courses based on the GATE score. In the absence of sufficient applicants who have qualified GATE, others will be considered for admission on the basis of the candidate's record in the qualifying examination. However, some of the deemed universities conduct their own entrance tests for M.Tech. admission.
Some of the institutes are:
· Anna University, Chennai, The categories for admission under the system are: GATE qualified, Non-GATE, sponsorship for regular/self-supporting full-time programmes.www.annauniv.edu/tanca-2005.
· The National Institute of Technology, Calicut conducts an M.Tech. programme in Computer Science and Engineering (two years, four semesters). Those who have passed B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering/or its equivalent with a valid GATE score are eligible for admission. ( www.nitc.ac.in/nitc/mtech) .
· Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, (website: gate.iitm.ac.in): Entry qualification is a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering/equivalent with valid GATE

· IIT Kharagpur (www.iitkgp.ernet.in/mtech )
· The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, (www.iisc.ernet.in ) conducts an ME Computer Science and Engineering course; eligibility is second class BE/B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering. Selection is based on GATE score only.
· Pondicherry University (www.pndiuni.org ) Selection is based on an entrance test conducted by the University and Kochi will be one of the test centres.

· The National Institute of Technology, deemed university, Warangal Admission is based on the GATE score
